The Arts and Crafts Movement
The Arts and Crafts Movement was one of the most influential movement. It began in Britain around 1880 and quickly spread across America and Europe.
The most influential figures were John Ruskin and William Morris. Ruskin worked on the relationship between art, society and labour while Morris put Ruskin's philosophies into practice and placing great value on work and joy of craftsmanship and the natural beauty of materials.
It was a movement born of ideals that grew out of a concern for the effects of industrialisation : on design, on traditional skills and on the lives of ordinary people.

John Ruskin (1819 -1900)
John Ruskin was one of the greatest British art critic and social
commentator of the Victorian Age. His ideas also inspired the Arts and Crafts
Movement and the founding of the National Trust, the Society for the Protection
of Ancient Buildings, and also the Labour Movement.
